3 Easy Crafts To Make With Old Books

Welcome back, Winged Wonders and welcome visitors! I find it really hard to believe that in the over SIX MONTHS that I’ve been blogging here, I’ve never done a DIY. Arts and crafts is a huge hobby of mine, particularly using watercolors.

So, I thought I’d finally share some cool craft ideas with you! All of this DIYs are easy and don’t require many materials at all. Before we get started, you did read the title right. I am asking you to…..

Cut a book.

It sounds bad, I know, but you probably have an excess of books that you don’t need. You can use those in crafts like I did. In fact, you can choose one book to use for all of these crafts! Now let’s begin!

Craft 1: A String Of Hearts

You Will Need:

  • A Book
  • Scissors
  • A Pencil
  • Glue

Start by selecting a page in the book and drawing one large heart on it. Then draw two small ones on a surrounding page.

Cut them out. (Guys, hearts made out of books is so aesthetic, I can’t even…)

Now, we get to arrange them! I arranged mine where the big heart was in the middle and the two smaller hearts were on either side! Now, take some glue and glue all of the hearts together!

You have a beautiful and bookish bedroom decoration!

Use This Craft As…

  • A wall decoration
  • A bookmark
  • A drink mat (If you put it on cardboard and laminate it)

Craft 2: Bookish Water Color

This is my favorite out of these three crafts!

You Will Need:

  • A Book
  • Circular Object (For Tracing)
  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • Watercolors and Paintbrush
  • Cup of Water

Start by cutting a page out of your book and tracing your circular object once on the page. Cut out the circle.

Now for the fun part: Watercolor! First, think of a design. I chose a flower because there were flowers on the cover of the book, and flowers are fun to paint. Now, paint! You can sketch it first, but since mine wasn’t that detailed, I painted without guidelines.

It will take a few minutes to dry.  Now, you have a colorful book craft!

Use This Craft As…

  • A gift tag for a  friend who loves books
  • A tiny decoration for your room
  • Picture inside of a picture frame

Craft 3: Name Wall Hanger

IMG_1197

This is a fun one! Think one of those cool polaroid wall art things, where you use clothespins to hang polaroids on string. But instead of polaroids, it’s the letters of your name!

You Will Need:

  • A Book
  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • Sharpie/Permanent Marker
  • Clothespins
  • String

Start by cutting out a few pages of the book. Now, draw as many hearts, circles, or other shapes as there are letters in your name. I used four because my name is Rose. Cut them out.

Next, take your Sharpie/permanent marker and write one letter of your name onto each shape. Take your time on the lettering!

Time for the best part: hanging it up! Find a spot in your room where you can mount the string to your wall. Take each circle and put a clothespin on it. Now, hang them on the string and you have a fun and unique wall decoration!

Use This Craft As…

  • A Gift

  1. I may do this…. if I can find a book that I don’t mind cutting a few pages out of. A good idea is if a book has the beginning of another book in the back, and If you have that book, you can just cut those sneak peak pages out.
